Partner Success Story

Ascent Replaces a Nine-Month Wait With a Ten-Week Delivery Using Commercient

About the Company

Ascent is a UK-based CRM consultancy and the first official UK Zoho partner, working with businesses since 2009 to design and implement Zoho, Salesforce, and HubSpot deployments. Rather than simply installing software, the firm runs a structured discovery and workshop process to tailor CRM and business systems around each client's specific operations.

Commercient were quite refreshing. It's like, sign the contract, right? It's week 10, we'll be delivering in week zero. And that's quite manageable.

Challenge

Ascent's clients regularly ran into the same operational bottleneck: sales teams had no visibility into financial data sitting in a separate ERP system. In a typical setup with dozens of salespeople and a much smaller finance team, sales staff had to email finance repeatedly just to check whether an invoice had been paid before they could tell operations to proceed. That back-and-forth consumed a significant share of both teams' working hours and pulled salespeople away from generating new business.

Ascent had also previously gone through a difficult integration experience with a professional Sage integration partner on a complex project. The client waited nine months just for a consultant to become available, the work then started three weeks late, ran far behind schedule from there, and the final result was poorly executed. That experience left Ascent wary of how integration projects were typically run.

Solution

Partnering with Commercient gave Ascent a way to connect clients' ERP systems directly to their CRM, so invoice and payment status update automatically and surface in front of the salesperson the moment they change, without anyone needing to ask. Ascent valued how clearly Commercient structured the project itself, working on a defined countdown to a go-live date, with regular meetings and project boards that kept developers, consultants, project managers, and the customer aligned on what needed to happen each week. That predictability let Ascent set expectations with clients up front and know the delivery date would hold.

Results

With the integration in place, Ascent's clients eliminated the cycle of manual status-check emails between sales and finance, freeing both teams to spend their time on higher-value work instead of chasing information. Salespeople gained immediate visibility into invoice status without leaving their CRM, and operations no longer waited on someone to relay an update manually. For Ascent, the experience of running a project with Commercient was a marked contrast to past integration work: deadlines set at the start of the contract were the deadlines actually met, which made the entire process easier to manage for Ascent's team and easier to explain to clients.

It's about visibility. Integrations are the glue that hold a business together. That 250 emails flowing backwards and forwards to check whether something's happened, that dead time is real money that you're spending on your sales people and your finance people.
